Theme
programming
McArthur Junior Kindergarten is a theme
based program that incorporates all forms of media in the exploration
of discovery.
Our focus is on creativity, the cornerstone
of our collective future - developing the ability to see things
differently and to do things differently.
Through play, children are given the
opportunities to express themselves in science, art, drama, music,
numeracy and language.
The program is filled with developmentally
appropriate materials and opportunities to assist in building cognitive,
communication and language, social-emotional, sensor motor and emerging
literacy skills.
Whatever level of talent or skill each
child expresses through any medium is celebrated. The value is in
the experience and not in the product.
Literacy
based
Stories provide a natural way of learning
to communicate, for children and adults alike.
Books and other literary materials are
a foundation of the program. Through books, children become aware
of language in the written form, learning that letters form words
and words form sentences that magically unleash the imagination.
Natural
science oriented
The program emphasizes the exploration
and appreciation of life in all forms, from the care and respect
for our resident critters, to the wilds of the world around us.
Children experience Pumba the guinea
pig, Perdida the bunny, Checkers the lizard, as well as the various
frogs, toads, butterflies, crickets and other creatures that enrich
our lives at the Centre from time to time.
Children explore the natural world using
the senses of sight, sound, touch and taste, and immerse themselves
in safe, but gooey, slippery, slimy experiments.
Outdoors
centered
We endeavour to adventure out into our
community as much as possible to observe and explore our natural
surroundings, from parks to refuges, in order to appreciate the
natural world under their feet and over their heads.
Exercise plays a critical part in good
health. Weather permitting, children play daily in our adventure
playground and in our riding and sports court. Sports activities
in the neighborhood park are also a regular activity.
Confidence
buiding
Children entering Kindergarten often
lack the necessary confidence to express themselves.
McArthur Junior Kindergarten is designed
to encourage the continuing development of self-discipline without
the loss of self-expression that is so important to a child's
well being, a requirement for children to fully explore and develop
their unique gifts.
Children who can freely express themselves
have an easier time interacting in a group and engaging the teachers.
The McArthur Junior Kindergarten Program
was created by a Professional Teacher and Early Childhood Educator
to prepare children of ages 4 to 5 for the challenges of school.
Through McArthur Junior Kindergarten
Program, the children learn to recognize, explore and capture their
own ideas, and develop the confidence to share them with others.
Opportunities are provided to build
on self worth, and respect for oneself, others and the environment.
When
The
preschool program program runs from September 21st, 2011 to June
27th, 2012, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
The
program does not run on the occassional days when the public schools
are closed in order for the Centre to accomodate full day care for
the school age program.
